What in the Wide, Wide World of Sports???……
Memorial Day weekend absolutely means honoring those who served, but is also absolutely packed with myriad sports events. Royals, SKC, Champions League, Indy 500 and other motor sports, NBA, NHL, Golf, heck…NCAA women’s lacrosse. Let’s dig in.
All-Around Downer
It was a sour Saturday in college basketball across the board, and then Sporting KC’s opener went south as well on Sunday. Baseball, and Phil Mickelson’s fall, also add to the gloom to break down and assess.
Close Calls and Virtuosos
The NFL wild card weekend is in sharp focus with a blend of routs and down to the wire finishes. The Chiefs explode after another sluggish start, and coaching decisions and referees are on the docket.
The Defense Doesn’t Rest
The Chiefs continue their run fueled by that other side of the ball, the college football playoffs provides something unique, and something ultrafamiliar, and the coaches carousel continues.
Assessment Monday
A Chiefs bye week allows for an NFL overview, while a three loss local college weekend brings different levels of analysis. That and the coaching carousel and the playoff situation in intense focus.
Litmus Test Time
Somehow, all of a sudden the Chiefs look like a, if not the, Super Bowl favorites. Meanwhile, the college teams produced a mixed bag. Mizzou an emotional if flawed win, KU a feel-good close call, and K-State gets cooled off by Baylor.
Most Cups Runneth Over
A jam-packed weekend of thrilling competitions is only muted by evaluating the desultory Royals at the All-Star break. Other MLB, Euro 2020, Wimbledon, the NBA Finals, and much more in the mix!
Overstuffed with Action and Issues
A weekend jam-packed with games, controversies, and story lines, includes the Chiefs draft, the Royals having a rare stinker but still coming up roses, Sporting KC also with a rough go, a big weekend at Kansas Speedway, Kansas finding a coach, and even more than that.
